Following the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of cars we get in Australia that make NA Oppos jealous, here's a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from the guys at CarAdvice.com.au. As much as I feel patriotically obliged to favour the Commodore, I'm afraid it would be the Octavia RS for me (manual, of course!).

I never woulda thought of this comparsion, mainly cause I think of the Commodore as a fire-spitting HSV. Interesting article.

As thanks, here's a fleet of Slovenian Škoda Octavia vRS Highway Patrol & Pursuit police cars. :)

It's the previous generation, though.

Thanks! In non-HSV form the Commodore traditionally been very much an "ordinary" family car, particularly the V6 versions. I have grown up with Commodores as very common (and unexciting) sight on the road. Only the more recent models have gained praise as high-quality, world-class vehicles.

I am quite a fan of these new ones though, and would happily own one, but when it came down to spending my own money they are other cars (such as the Octavia) that are more to my tastes.

I saw an unmarked police Skoda Octavia VRS Estate out and about a few months ago. It looked pretty much exactly like the one in the picture, with the lights - which were running at the time - hidden behind the grille. Skodas have - traditionally - not really done it for me, but it looked cool as fuck.

And here's an older generation in our police livery.

My only hesitation with buying a Skoda is that they are usually slightly inferior to the VWs on which they are based, and in Australia at least, they aren't priced far enough apart.

However, the Octavia RS occupies a niche that isn't completely mirrored by any VW, and for that reason is to me quite attractive.
